Born and raised in British Columbia, I was always that strong, independent, full-of-ideas girl. Although I grew up attending church, I rejected God as a pre-teen in 7th grade and developed a strong aversion to religion and Christianity. It wasn't until I moved to Los Angeles for fashion school and hit rock bottom that I realized my need for community. I was encouraged by my parents to give the church another shot, and to my surprise, my heart shot wide open and my life's trajectory changed in ways I never expected.
During an intense season of anxiety, depression, and loneliness, I walked into a church that met in a night-club-turned-into-church in the heart of Downtown LA. I didn't have any expectations walking in and I sat in the very back of the room. When the music started playing, the atmosphere shifted and I had no idea what had happened.
In hindsight, the shift in the atmosphere was the Holy Spirit's presence, and that feeling made me curious enough to keep going back week after week. The sermons kept shouting at me as if God was talking to me directly, and at this point - I knew God was pursuing me. Against all odds, I gave my life to Jesus.
Soon after, my interest in fashion and social media dwindled, and a fire burned bright within me for Jesus. I wanted to know more. I wanted to make sure I wasn't devoting my life to something false. I pursued my undergraduate theology degree at Life Pacific University in San Dimas, California, where I spent hours upon hours studying, researching, writing and asking questions.
I graduated with a firm foundation in Jesus, and I decided to pursue my graduate degree in organizational psychology at Azusa Pacific University, where I received leadership, facilitation, and coaching training. I focused my research on organizational change and culture.
God brought me to Denver, Colorado to consult a church plant and work closely with the pastors to bring the vision to life. It was wonderful being a part of something different - something focused solely on evangelism and seeing transformation in a specific neighbourhood.
A year into it, the Lord led me through provision - or the lack thereof (I couldn't get a work visa), so I moved back home to Vancouver, BC.
For the last four years, I have been pastoring at an Alliance church in Cloverdale, Surrey, and I am currently the Associate Pastor of Engagement and Outreach. I never thought I'd be where I am, but the Lord has given me a story of radical transformation and healing that I love sharing.
